Absence of Hall effect due to Berry curvature in phase space

چکیده

Abstract Transverse current due to Berry curvature in phase space is formulated based on the Boltzmann equations with semiclassical of motion for an electron wave packet. It shown that Hall effect absent because contributions from “anomalous velocity” and “effective Lorentz force” are completely cancelled out.

Topological Hall effect and Berry phase in magnetic nanostructures.

We discuss the anomalous Hall effect in a two-dimensional electron gas subject to a spatially varying magnetization. This topological Hall effect does not require any spin-orbit coupling and arises solely from Berry phase acquired by an electron moving in a smoothly varying magnetization. We propose an experiment with a structure containing 2D electrons or holes of diluted magnetic semiconducto...

Berry curvature and energy bands of graphene

In this paper energy bands and Berry curvature of graphene was studied. Desired Hamiltonian regarding the next-nearest neighbors obtained by tight binding model. By using the second quantization approach, the transformation matrix is calculated and the Hamiltonian of system is diagonalized. With this Hamiltonian, the band structure and wave function can be calculated. By using calculated wave f...

Phase-Space Approach to Berry Phases

We propose a new formula for the adiabatic Berry phase which is based on phase-space formulation of quantum mechanics. This approach sheds a new light into the correspondence between classical and quantum adiabatic phases — both phases are related with the averaging procedure: Hannay’s angle with averaging over the classical torus and Berry’s phase with averaging over the entire classical phase...

Quantum Nonlinear Hall Effect Induced by Berry Curvature Dipole in Time-Reversal Invariant Materials.

It is well known that a nonvanishing Hall conductivity requires broken time-reversal symmetry. However, in this work, we demonstrate that Hall-like currents can occur in second-order response to external electric fields in a wide class of time-reversal invariant and inversion breaking materials, at both zero and twice the driving frequency. This nonlinear Hall effect has a quantum origin arisin...
